Painting

I've been painting up a storm instead of working. I've never really painted before, but I find it very relaxing, and it provides me with satisfyingly pretty things to put on my walls.

In the spirit of this blog's theme, here's one of my recent ones. I thought it came out particularly well.

It's going to be a present for someone.

More after the jump!

Eros

I worked on this first one for an unholy amount of time. It evolved from a Roman mosaic I liked, of Eros riding a dolphin, discovered in a bathhouse outside Sussex.

From there, it turned into this.

Then, inevitably, it turned into an idea for a tattoo. So I sketched it out a little prettier. This (curiously mouthless?) rendition was the next step.

Once I had him, the question was whether I wanted him on my body. I thought about it long and hard, and came to a decision. I would paint him out, huge, on a 30 x 30 canvas, and if I wasn't sick of the design by the time I had finished, I would nix the idea.

Here he is. I like him, but I was definitely sick of the design. Nixed.

A close-up of his face:

For Mary

A portrait of my lovely roommate. Taken from a posterized black and white picture and gothified beyond recognition.

 Oscillogram

Because I am nerdy and stare at representations of sound all day, every day, I painted a sound wave!

Geisha

This was a present for the boy a little while back. It's a geisha. She's on Mars.

There are several more, but they are works in progress/in too shameful a state to post at the moment.
In the mean time, I suppose I should get back to work.
